LOSING = WINNING. IRAN WITH NUKES = GOP SHRUG

Can you say LOSER? Trump’s war on Iran has killed 13 service members and injured 400 more. And has cost us at least $132B so far in immediate costs, lost income, and higher consumer costs. Lacking actual skills to make a good deal, the president just signed an MOU that leaves the US in a much worse place with regard to Iran than before Trump started bombing. The costs to the world have been even higher in terms both of lives—beginning with more than 175 Iranian school girls and their teachers—and of economies. As we’re reading, the terms of the MOU heavily favor Iran. And Iran’s ultimate control over the Strait of Hormuz gives them continued leverage over Trump and the US. Exactly the scenario that past US presidents sought to avoid by negotiating with Iran rather than bombing it. And the main justification for Trump’s attack on Iran, nuclear power capabilities? That gets kicked up the road to resolve at a later day. Or, rather, in exchange for concessions Iran “reaffirms” in the MOU that it will not try to develop or procure a nuclear weapon. “Reaffirms” = simply reiterating what it said in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that Trump tore up in 2018. But never fear, Trump loyalist Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS)quickly defended the idea of Iran having missiles, telling CNN that he preferred that they not have missiles, but that “the key issue” is that “they have to be able to defend themselves.” Is that a joke? And MAGA lawmakers like Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) seemed willing to go along with the measure, saying: “I trust President Trump. I trust Vice President Vance. We don’t need to listen to anybody up here on Capitol Hill. Let’s trust these two.” How do you feel about one of your own making you irrelevant in the process? Is it any wonder the Iranian government is declaring “total victory”? Lastly, proving that the man has little grasp of history…after trying to figure out which way the blame wind might blow, Trump decided he would indeed sign the MOU himself. At Versailles. Where after WWI the Allied powers forced Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles, “one of the most famous surrender documents in modern history.” Just when you think irony might be finally dead. The escalating incompetence is epic indeed.
