Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
Easter weekend. A time to think about how to be a better person. A time to reflect on being a fortunate American. Because we look around and see that much of the world doesn’t share our fortune.
So today I’m back campaigning for Ukraine, and hoping that when the House is back in session something positive will actually happen. The American people want to help. The House seems poised to pass help if allowed. The only faction not wanting to help seem to be elements of Congress that never want to help with anything, and Vladimir Putin.
We read about how Putin’s main strategy to win in Ukraine is the power of his propaganda. His ability to bend a perception of reality to suit his purpose. Which of course he’s quite good at.
However, reality is pesky. We also read that Russia is not as powerful as he wants us to believe. The forces combined against his wish to conquer Ukraine are much more powerful. And these powers can stop his vision to conquer. These powers can defeat propaganda, and Putin.
But will we?
While Europe is warning that they are in pre-war mode, reminiscent of the period before WWII, America now, as then, is dithering. Portions of our Congress are swept up in promoting Putin’s propaganda, distracting the public with nonsense. Nonsense which is often successful.
Pearl Harbor forced us to take action back then. What will it take for us to do so again? History is hindsight. Here’s hoping that we can be clear-sighted in the face of forces designed to distract us. To assess the potential big-picture effect on the world of our current, and potentially future, inaction.
Surely we can relate to a people fighting for their freedom from tyranny? A freedom that seems largely contingent on us taking a stand for what we know to be right?
Fingers crossed and hope springs.
In the meantime, back to reading about the current GOP candidate for Prez as he spreads images of a hog-tied Joe Biden, with glee, and verbally assaults the rule of law and innocent bystanders with his bully (literally) pulpit. And that’s just a slow day.
Wouldn’t it be nice to do something that brings back some dignity to your party?
At least think about it.
