Oppose DOJ Rule That Shields Federal Prosecutors From State Bar Oversight

I'm asking you to oppose the Justice Department's proposed rule that would allow the attorney general to intervene in state bar investigations of federal prosecutors. This rule violates the 1998 McDade-Murtha Amendment, which requires federal prosecutors to follow state ethics rules where they work. Federal prosecutors are some of the most powerful people in the country, and they are among the least accountable. State bar associations provide essential independent oversight that this rule would gut. The DOJ claims bar complaints have been weaponized, but existing systems already handle frivolous complaints. What we've actually seen is legitimate accountability: attorneys like John Eastman, Rudy Giuliani, and Jeffrey Clark faced disbarment for trying to overturn the 2020 election. The DOJ's own Office of Professional Responsibility cannot provide meaningful oversight. Trump already removed its head, along with the director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics and at least 17 independent inspectors general. This rule is part of a pattern to remove independent checks on abuses of power. Nobody is above the law, including the DOJ. State bar oversight protects the public and maintains the integrity of our legal system. Reject this federal overreach.
