I am writing to express my deep concern and opposition to the proposed Ambler Road project in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska. While I am a staunch supporter of clean energy solutions and understand the importance of developing infrastructure to support these initiatives, I believe this particular project poses significant threats to the environment, wildlife, and local communities that outweigh its potential benefits.
The Ambler Road project, a 211-mile venture, threatens to irreversibly damage one of the largest connected park landscapes in our nation. This project risks polluting nearly 3,000 rivers and streams, a devastating impact on our natural water systems. Moreover, it disrupts the migration corridor of one of Earth's largest caribou herds, a species crucial to the ecological balance of the region.
Perhaps most importantly, the Ambler Road project endangers the key hunting grounds and water sources that are vital to local Native communities. These communities depend on the natural resources of the Brooks Range for their sustenance and cultural practices. The introduction of open-pit mining and extraction, as proposed, would lead to permanent and destructive impacts on these communities and the environment.
As a concerned citizen and advocate for sustainable development, I urge you to consider the long-term environmental and social costs associated with the Ambler Road project. The protection of our natural landscapes and the well-being of local communities must be a priority in our pursuit of progress.
I respectfully request that you take my concerns into account and oppose the Ambler Road project. We must seek alternative solutions that align with our environmental responsibilities and respect the rights and traditions of indigenous populations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and action on this critical issue.
