An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Urgent: Hold The Trump Administration Accountable for Constitutional Violations

I am writing to express my grave concern regarding recent executive actions taken by former President Donald Trump and his administration that directly undermine the U.S. Constitution. As a concerned constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to ensure that these unconstitutional acts do not stand unchallenged and that those responsible are held accountable. Below are specific instances where the actions of Donald Trump and his administration have violated constitutional principles and established legal precedents: Ending Birthright Citizenship On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump issued an executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to non-citizens. This action is a clear violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, which explicitly grants U.S. citizenship to all persons born or naturalized within our borders. Any attempt to alter this fundamental right through executive action is an unlawful overreach and must be swiftly repudiated. Federal Spending Freeze The Trump administration attempted to freeze federal spending to review compliance with specific executive orders. This action, however, directly violates Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, which vests Congress with the power of the purse. The president does not have the unilateral authority to halt congressionally appropriated funds. This action represents a direct challenge to the separation of powers and must be met with firm congressional opposition. Dismissal of Inspectors General and Federal Board Members Trump dismissed 18 inspectors general without the required notification to Congress and removed confirmed members of independent federal boards. Legal experts argue that these dismissals violate established federal laws designed to protect the independence of these oversight positions. Precedent affirms that Congress has the authority to regulate the process for removing officials, and Trump's failure to comply with these rules represents a violation of Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution. These actions represent a systematic assault on the constitutional order of the United States. I urge you to take the following steps immediately: Publicly denounce these unconstitutional acts and demand full accountability for those responsible. Introduce or support legislation that reinforces the constitutional separation of powers and prevents future executive overreach. Advocate for judicial review and congressional oversight to ensure that these executive orders are permanently struck down. Support any necessary investigations and potential legal consequences for those who have willfully undermined the Constitution. The strength of our republic depends on the vigilance of its elected representatives in upholding the Constitution. I hope you will act decisively to defend the rule of law and ensure that no president, past or future, is allowed to dismantle our democratic institutions through unlawful executive action.
