Use coal rail lines for passengers
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I just read an article on Colorado public radio about increasing interest in using old coal train right of ways/tracks for passenger rail to Steamboat Springs and other areas in and around Routt county. I wanted to let you know that I am highly in favor of that project and ask you to do all you can to promote it.
From the article and from other news reports, now seems to be an ideal time to take advantage of federal infrastructure funding, our current US president's support for both energy saving projects as well as ones involving rail transportation.
It is important to me that you and others working on this project understand that passenger rail almost never can support itself from fees alone. I don't believe that there is a passenger rail line in the world that is profit making. However, there are other reasons than profit for embarking on such a project.
The benefits to the state as a whole are huge. The boon to our tourism industry, the economies of our rural areas, benefits for climate change and more make such a project a no-brainer.
Please let me know that you will do whatever you can to promote this and other similar projects in our wonderful state that is continuing to be overrun by automobiles.
