Restore NOAA Before More Americans Die on Your Watch

The tornadoes in Kentucky killed 23 people. Most of them lived in counties like Laurel and Pulaski—where over 82% of voters chose Donald Trump in 2024. These are your Republican base. Your people. Or at least they were, until last night—when they saw the full extent of this administration’s greed. And Trump, MAGA, and the entire Republican Party that allowed DOGE to slash and burn without oversight failed them. Thanks to Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Republican-led “reorganization,” the National Weather Service (NWS) office responsible for their warnings was understaffed overnight during a deadly tornado outbreak. They were scrambling to find someone to cover the shift—because of cuts YOU, the GOP, approved. Republicans didn’t just slash “waste.” They gutted NOAA, the very agency that tracks storms and issues life-saving alerts. This wasn’t trimming fat. This was cutting life support—in poor, rural counties that can’t buy access or attention. Would Republicans have allowed this in Palm Beach? Or the Hamptons? Or did these voters not matter because they can’t make million-dollar donations or grovel to Trump with gold gifts? And here’s the part that should keep Republicans up at night: Hurricane season hasn’t even started. They already know NWS and NOAA are dangerously understaffed—and instead of fixing it, they keep tightening the noose. All to give tax cuts to the rich and hurt anyone who is not a rich white male. This is not efficiency. It’s reckless. It’s deadly. And it’s the Republican Party’s to own. Trump may believe he has immunity for these deaths. But do you? If your votes and decisions led to this tragedy—and potentially many more—do you really think he’ll stand beside you at trial? Or will he do what he always does and say, “I don’t know anything about that. You’ll have to ask .....”
