Fight for all Americans: do not cave on the shutdown!

Do not agree to reopen the government without major concessions on the ACA subsidies and SNAP backpayments. If any of your Democratic Party colleagues are considering reopening the government, please ensure they know that doing so will not achieve your policy goals, will squander the momentum that progressives have built these last few weeks, and will alienate voters who have stood by the Democratic Party and given you cover to fight for the American people. The government shutdown has caused harm to so many of us. It continues to wreak havoc across the country, and the pain is likely to increase until this is all over. But it pales into insignificance compared to the pain and anger that will result from caving to the Trump administration’s wishes now. The majority of the country understands that the shutdown was caused and is being perpetuated by the Republican Party as a whole, headed by a figure whose incompetence you are laying bare for all to see clearly. The country needs you and the Democratic Party to stand strong for healthcare, food assistance, and restitution of the harms inflicted by HR1. You must fight for the majority of Americans who need you to push back against the Trump regime’s willful cruelty and incompetence. Do not back down. Do not cave. Resist!
