Oppose Discriminatory Measures Against Students

HB 7683 - Opposing Discriminatory Measures Against Students I urge you to reconsider your support for HB 7683. This bill has concerning implications that could enable discrimination against transgender students and undermine diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts on college campuses. The provision prohibiting "retaliation against students of single-sex social organizations" essentially allows fraternities and sororities to bar transgender individuals from joining based on their gender identity, shielding these organizations from consequences. Furthermore, the language in the bill could be weaponized to dismantle vital DEI initiatives that promote an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students. Enabling such discrimination goes against the values of equality and acceptance that our institutions of higher education should uphold. I implore you to prioritize the well-being and rights of all students, including those within the transgender community, and reject measures that perpetuate marginalization and prejudice on our campuses.
