FCC Chair Brendan Carr needs to be held accountable for his refusal to investigate $2.5 million in taxpayer-funded ads promoting President Trump — and if he won't do his job, he should be replaced. Watchdog group Public Citizen has already filed a lawsuit alleging these ads violate federal law prohibiting the use of taxpayer funds to finance propaganda. Carr's response? He called them "a normal PSA" and dismissed the lawsuit as activist meddling.
This isn't a gray area. The ads ran during NFL games and made political claims like "America will never be a communist country," featuring Trump allies like Dana White. That is not a public service announcement — that is campaign material billed to taxpayers. Carr was appointed by Trump, and his refusal to even consider FCC review makes clear he is protecting the administration rather than enforcing the law. Congress needs to step in, demand a full investigation into these ads, and make clear that an FCC chair who shields political propaganda from scrutiny has no business leading an independent regulatory agency.
