The United States Senate should co-sponsor the bipartisan legislation authored by Senators Todd Young and Tim Kaine to repeal the 1991 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force, formally ending the Gulf and Iraq wars. This bill would reassert Congress' constitutional role in deciding whether and when to send service members into harm's way, while strengthening the relationship with the now sovereign, democratic Iraq that faces pressure from Iran rather than posing a threat. After decades of armed conflict that have drained resources and cost many lives, it is time to pursue alternatives to perpetual warfare in the Middle East and prioritize diplomatic solutions for regional stability.
