Demand Independent Investigation of DOJ Epstein Files Deletion

On January 30, 2026, the Department of Justice released documents related to the Epstein investigation, but one document containing complaints and allegations involving powerful individuals was abruptly deleted from public access after it gained widespread attention on social media. Hours later, the document reappeared on the DOJ website, raising serious questions about whether additional redactions were made and who ordered its temporary removal.
This sequence of events suggests potential obstruction of justice and tampering with public records. When government agencies selectively remove and potentially alter documents that implicate powerful figures, it undermines the rule of law and public trust in our justice system. The American people have a right to transparency regarding investigations into serious criminal allegations, particularly when those allegations involve individuals in positions of power.
I am calling on you to demand an immediate independent investigation into who ordered the deletion of this document from the DOJ website, whether any alterations or additional redactions were made before it was restored, and what role current DOJ leadership played in this decision. This investigation should examine whether Attorney General Pam Bondi or other officials interfered with the public release of these files.
Furthermore, I urge you to support legislation that would prevent political appointees from unilaterally removing or altering documents related to ongoing or completed criminal investigations once they have been released to the public. We need safeguards to ensure that no administration can bury evidence that implicates its own members or allies.
The timing and circumstances of this deletion demand accountability. If individuals within the DOJ or the administration attempted to conceal evidence of criminal activity, they must face consequences. I expect you to use your oversight authority to get answers and to ensure that justice is not obstructed by those who are supposed to uphold it.
