I am writing as a concerned constituent to strongly urge you to oppose the continued appointment of Alina Habba as the acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Her tenure has already proved dangerously partisan and detrimental to the integrity of the office.
Since taking office, Habba—formerly President Trump’s personal lawyer—has made it clear that she views the position as a political weapon. She has openly vowed to “turn New Jersey red” and has taken a series of actions that reflect a partisan agenda rather than an impartial commitment to justice.
She has prosecuted Democratic legislators while going easy on GOP-aligned offenders. She dropped a major case just days before trial, compromising enforcement priorities and eroding confidence in the office’s independence. She disbanded the Civil Rights Division, further gutting protections for vulnerable communities. These actions have triggered a wave of resignations from experienced career prosecutors, weakening one of the most critical federal offices in the region.
Federal judges have already criticized her conduct and decisions. Her actions have undermined the credibility of the Department of Justice and emboldened political prosecutions. New Jersey’s senators have also questioned her qualifications and intentions, reflecting broad concern across the legal and political spectrum.
The U.S. Attorney’s office must remain independent and shielded from political interference. Alina Habba’s appointment, clearly motivated by political loyalty rather than merit or professionalism, represents a dangerous step toward authoritarian abuse of the justice system.
I respectfully ask that you:
Publicly call for her immediate removal,
Support only qualified, nonpartisan candidates for U.S. Attorney roles, and
Back legislation that protects DOJ appointments from partisan influence.
Our justice system must be rooted in fairness, not faction. Thank you for standing up for democratic values and the rule of law.
