WILL YOU HELP?

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. As our country begins a bright, shiny New Year, hope abides. Hope for an end to the pandemic. Hope for peace in all things. Hope that America will survive the current attempts to tear her down. It often feels like we’re all just an audience in the theater, watching events unfold on stage. Events that alarm us. Frighten us. Outrage us. But all we can do is just ‘tut tut’ ‘tsk tsk’, turn away, and try and carry on with our lives. But we can’t pretend nothing is wrong. Or assume that all will be well, with no effort on our parts. We can’t leave it to the other guy to protect all that we hold dear. This constituent would just like to let her elected officials know that the future is in their hands. All of our futures. So I quote an elected official who sees the danger. Acknowledges the danger. And is acting with all good faith to stop the danger. Because she knows it is up to her and others like her to do defend the oath they took to the Constitution and the country. “The president could have at any moment, walked those very few steps into the briefing room, gone on live television, and told his supporters who were assaulting the Capitol to stop. He could have told them to stand down. He could have told them to go home — and he failed to do so. It's hard to imagine a more significant and more serious dereliction of duty than that." “At the same time the violent assault was happening, he is watching television, and he is also calling one senator urging delay of the electoral vote." "Any man who would not do so [stop the violence], any man who would provoke a violent assault on the Capitol to stop the counting of electoral votes, any man who would watch television as police officers were being beaten, as his supporters were invading the Capitol of the United States, is clearly unfit for future office, clearly can never be anywhere near the Oval Office ever again.” Liz Cheney and the January 6 Committee know stuff. And that stuff will soon be revealed. “DRAFT LETTER FROM POTUS TO SEIZE EVIDENCE IN THE INTEREST OF NATIONAL SECURITY FOR THE 2020 ELECTIONS." This is just one document, but it looks like a doozy. So my questions to you all are…will you just continue to be a silent audience member, in tacit complicit agreement, watching democracy die? Or worse, will you make cynical hay for your own political futures off the dangerous struggle we’re watching play out every day? Cowardice. Or bravery. Which will it be?
