An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Keep legal pathways for immigration open

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The humanitarian parole programs enacted under the previous administration provided a lawful pathway for over 750,000 migrants from Latin America and Ukraine to seek refuge in the United States. The indefinite freeze on processing their immigration applications is concerning, particularly given the reported fraud and security issues cited as justification. Closing this door creates anxiety for those fleeing persecution and upheaval, many of whom have sponsors willing to support them. While robust vetting is essential for national security, abruptly cutting off their pathway to legal residency seems at odds with longstanding American values of compassion and providing safe harbor. A balanced approach enhancing screening protocols without arbitrarily barring all applicants would better reflect the nation's heritage of welcoming the world's persecuted and displaced. Recalibrating these programs to address any deficiencies while still extending opportunity to those facing dire circumstances is worthy of consideration.
