As a constituent and outdoor enthusiast, I urge you to support the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act (H.R. 1685/S. 881).
The E-BIKE Act would offer a 30 percent refundable tax credit on the purchase of a new electric bicycle, providing up to a $1,500 credit on an electric bicycle whose value does not exceed $8,000. The bill also mandates a report from the IRS after two years to evaluate use of the credit by income tax bracket.
Electric bicycles displace vehicular emissions, reduce congestion, keep people moving efficiently, and help people maintain active lifestyles. They also offer a competitive transportation alternative and provide additional access to work, errands, and recreation.
