Restore Congressional authority over reckless tariffs

Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over trade and tariff policies. For too long, the executive branch has overstepped its bounds by unilaterally imposing tariffs without proper legislative oversight. This unchecked power has led to a destabilizing trade war that is harming American businesses, workers, and consumers and has already cost $6 trillion in market gains. It is encouraging to see bipartisan efforts in both chambers to rein in this unauthorized executive overreach.
Tariffs are taxes paid by American citizens, and the authority to levy such taxes rightly belongs to the legislative branch as enshrined in the Constitution. Escalating trade conflicts have already disrupted supply chains, raising costs for businesses and squeezing consumers with higher prices. This self-inflicted damage to the U.S. economy is unacceptable.
By advancing legislation to reassert its constitutionally mandated role, Congress can restore responsible oversight, stability, and long-term strategic thinking to America's trade policies. Trade wars and rash tariff actions do not serve your constituents’ interests. It is time to end this executive overreach and return trade authorities to their proper constitutional framework under the purview of the legislative branch. The health of the nation's economy and respect for the founding principles of separated powers demand no less.
