Voter suppression tactics are nothing new — something the late Congressman John Lewis knew all too well. Thats why 56 years ago Congress passed the Voting Rights Act. Despite historic legislation, voter suppression tactics are still alive and well. Voter suppression is not just a state problem it is a federal problem. Let there be no mistake voter suppression is not a partisan issue. To treat voter suppression as a Democrat vs. Republican issue is wrong, if only because suppressing citizens’ voting rights will effect both parties’ members and agendas. In this way you , personally, are not immune to the effects of voter suppression. Because of the federal and bipartisan effects of voter suppression I am calling on you to support the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
