ANOTHER BASIC ASSUMPTION DESTROYED…FOOD SAFETY. BEST GET A GARDEN GOING

Will anyone on the GOP side of the aisle ever acknowledge that Donald Trump is the worst dealmaker on the planet? At least when it comes to the care and feeding of the country he’s supposed to work for? The latest and greatest deal is even giving Texas indigestion. He’s decided that to help the American people he will now lift the same tariffs that he’s been telling us aren’t hurting us in order to flood the country with foreign beef, to help us. At a discount. From who knows where. But it’ll be cheaper. And mystery meat is better than no meat at all amirite? He’s now directly saying that to reduce prices for Americans his tariff on imported beef has to be lifted. So much for all his ‘tariffs are a good thing’ lies. Here’s one of the other deals Trump made with our food supply… In March 2025, shortly after he moved back in, Trump’s administration postponed the compliance deadline for the FDA’s Food Traceability Rule by 30 months. That moved it back from January 20, 2026, to July 20, 2028. No assessment of foreign food safety for over 2 years. Like right now. At the time, the administration claimed that there were complex supply chain challenges. It even used language to prevent the use of federal funds for enforcement before the July 2028 date. The primary goal of the Traceability Rule was to enable faster identification and rapid removal of potentially contaminated food from our supply, lessening foodborne illnesses and deaths. Got that? Taylor Farms (the parent company of Taylor Fresh Foods) donated $1M to MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, on March 26, 2025, just days after the Traceability Rule extension. It’s not hard to follow that money…all the way back to the Mexican lettuce on our salad plates. There have been at least two deaths and over 13,000 reported cases, just of Cyclospora…that we know about. But given the opaque nature of the Trump administration it’s impossible to assess whether these statistics are reliable. Or just the tip of the iceberg. We also know the number of federal food inspectors is down sharply. As ProPublica reported in November: “American inspections of foreign food facilities – which produce everything from crawfish to cookies for the U.S. market – have plummeted to historic lows.” And now many other food contamination issues are being reported almost daily it seems. We aren’t getting a comprehensive report from the government. There are no adults in the room. And so we’re left to fend for ourselves, discerning whether each new report is true or false and what it means we need to do about it. The bottom line is that we should be very afraid of any deal the Trump administration makes for our food supply chain. But at least the GOP has finally proven to us what they’ve been screaming about forever…that yes, the government may very well be the enemy. And yes, we should not trust them. And yes, maybe we would be better off without the whole lot of them. Mission accomplished guys. So when we hear GOP bots on Fox raving on about how socialism and communism are bad, at least when it’s a Democrat proposing ways to ease American consumers’ economic pain, remember the current government that wants you to be happy with government mystery meat thrown to you like a bone you wouldn’t even want your dog to eat. And they assume you’ll be thankful for it all. Soylent Green anyone?
