Please Oppose EPA Rollbacks and Restore Environmental Justice Protections

I’m writing to urge you to strongly oppose the rollback of EPA protections and the closure of Environmental Justice offices. These actions are not only irresponsible—they’re dangerous. We are incredibly fortunate here in Washington to have access to some of the cleanest air in the country. I don’t take that for granted. Every breath we take is a reminder of what’s possible when environmental protections are respected and enforced. But this gift is fragile. If companies are allowed to bypass regulations that keep our air and water safe, we risk losing what makes our region so livable—not just for us, but for future generations. Air pollution is a known killer. It causes heart disease, cancer, stroke, asthma, and other serious conditions. According to the World Health Organization, the smallest particles (PM2.5) are among the most deadly—and yet they’re precisely what we risk unleashing with looser regulations. These effects are not equally distributed: low-income communities and communities of color are hit hardest. I find it unconscionable that any administration—especially one that claims to be “pro-life”—would prioritize polluters over people. Closing Environmental Justice offices and rolling back clean air and water protections sends a clear message: that profits matter more than human health. Do we really want to worsen conditions in places like Louisiana’s Cancer Alley? Or silence the voices of communities fighting for their children’s right to breathe clean air? These rollbacks are not just environmentally reckless—they’re morally wrong. They reflect a deliberate abandonment of our duty to protect the most vulnerable among us. I’m asking you to speak out, clearly and publicly, against these changes. Help your colleagues understand that environmental protections are not political pawns. They’re essential safeguards for all of us—regardless of where we live or how we vote. Please fight back with every tool available. Our lives, our water, our air—all depend on it.
