An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop the CPSC's Illegal Seizure of Patient Medical Records

441 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

The Consumer Product Safety Commission needs to immediately halt its demand that hospitals hand over personally identifiable patient records — names, addresses, and diagnoses — to a private contractor called Konza Health. This isn't a gray area. Health law experts like Sharona Hoffman of Case Western Reserve University have flagged these requests as potential violations of federal privacy law. The CPSC's own operating manual previously instructed hospitals not to share patient identifying information. The agency is now contradicting its own rules. This is happening with almost no institutional oversight. Trump fired the CPSC's three Democratic board members, and 63 career staffers have already left in 2025. There is no check on this demand. At least 100 hospitals are being pressured to comply by end of 2026. Every one of those hospitals serves your constituents, and every patient who walked through their doors deserves to know their private medical information won't be handed to a contractor without their consent. Push for a full investigation and block any funding that enables this program to move forward.
