Today’s parade of incompetence and corruption.
Another presidential pardon predicated on personal gain for the Trump family. But, typically, when the president was asked on 60 Minutes about his pardon of billionaire Changpeng Zhao, the co-founder and former chief executive officer of Binance, and cryptocurrency’s richest man, he pled ignorance.
The interviewer noted that our government said Zhao “had caused ‘significant harm to U.S. national security,’ essentially by allowing terrorist groups like Hamas to move millions of dollars around.” She asked the president, “Why did you pardon him?”
Trump answered. “I don’t know who he is. I know he got a four-month sentence or something like that. And I heard it was a Biden witch hunt.
Sure. Nothing to do with his family’s burgeoning crypto fortune.
Trump and the GOP Congress continue to refuse to negotiate with Democrats on the shutdown.
Their sole negotiating tactic is to increase pressure by hurting the American people.
Grocery prices are going up, even though Trump lied they were stable in the 60 Minutes interview, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Winter is coming. The program that families use to cover the cost of utilities or heating oil is to be cut. Almost 6M households use the program. But as cold weather sets in, the government has not funded it.
Other things do get funded, like ICE. In the 60 Minutes interview the question was asked, “Americans have been watching videos of ICE tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighborhood, and the smashing of car windows. Have some of these raids gone too far?”
“No,” Trump answered. “I think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the—by the judges, the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama.”
Not true. Those judges were appointed by every president since Ronald Reagan, and 12 were appointed by Trump himself.
As one military veteran who had a firsthand experience with ICE activities observed, “Even in Afghanistan, we had very clear rules of engagement. The conduct of these agents was such that if it occurred in Afghanistan, they would be removed from the frontline. They would be court-martialed."
It looks like the administration ignored the deadline for congressional approval of the ongoing strikes against Venezuela, required under the 1973 War Powers Act. They don’t need, want, or require your participation. Although someday in the future, there will be a reckoning for accountability. I’m not sure pleading ignorance is going to be a proper defense.
But it works for Trump and most every other GOP Congress member, so I could be wrong.
P.S. Trump did finally come up with the health plan he’s been talking about since 2015. Ask Scott Adams. All you have to do is give the prez props and ask nicely and voila…cancer drug delivered.
If only the rest of us were so worthy.
