An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Congress Must Stop US Involvement in Another Forever War & Civilian Murder

30 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

Today I’m writing in opposition to the US taking an illegal and unilateral step to escalating a war we didn’t even start, by attacking Iran. I’m urging you to support de-escalation, and resolutions that re-assert Congress’s authority to fund any kind of war. This must stop. Congress must disentangle us from Netanyahu’s genocidal war. He is a malignant leader. We cannot be a party to the civilian casualties that will continue to happen in Gaza, Israel, and Iran. Therefore there is an urgent need to prioritize protecting civilians and ensuring their safety amid the unprecedented military escalation between Israel and Iran. We know the relentless bombing and missile strikes have already resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties, including many women and children, on both sides. While warnings to evacuate have been issued, they lack vital details and clear guidance, sowing panic rather than facilitating safe evacuation for millions with limited mobility or means to leave. Internet shutdowns are further endangering lives by cutting off access to essential information and communications. Instead of pursuing military dominance, Congress must force the President to withdraw support for this war. Both parties must seek an immediate and lasting cease-fire, and uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law. Attacks targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure are strictly prohibited, as are indiscriminate strikes in populated areas using inaccurate weapons like ballistic missiles. The United States cannot be a party to: ⁃ Any military actions resulting in disproportionate civilian harm are unlawful. ⁃ Spreading terror through threats of violence against entire cities is also a violation. Escalating violence will only unleash devastating humanitarian consequences across the region. Preventing further civilian suffering must be the utmost priority for all parties involved and the international community. Concrete steps must be taken immediately to halt unlawful strikes, restore internet access, ensure safe evacuation routes, and investigate all violations of international law to pursue accountability. Human lives must take precedence over military objectives. Thank you.
