An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Constitutional Accountability for Seizure of the Touska and the Iran War

29 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to demand that Congress immediately reclaim its constitutional authority as we stand on the precipice of a full-scale, unauthorized war with Iran. Following the initiation of the naval blockade on April 13 and yesterday's report that the US Navy has fired upon and seized an Iranian vessel (the Touska), the situation has moved beyond escalation into active, unauthorized hostilities. As my representative, I urge you to consider the following: 1. Article I, Section 8: The Constitution is clear—Congress, not the Executive, has the sole power to declare war. Executing a blockade and conducting kinetic strikes—including today’s seizure—without a formal Declaration of War or a specific AUMF is a direct violation of our founding principles and the War Powers Resolution. 2. Fiscal and Economic Stability: We cannot afford another forever war. This conflict has already destabilized global energy markets, with the administration admitting today that the Strait of Hormuz remains unsafe for transit. We must demand a diplomatic roadmap before another cent of supplemental military funding is approved. 3. Closing Diplomatic Window: With the ceasefire set to expire this Wednesday, April 22, and reports indicating that tomorrow’s scheduled talks in Islamabad are in jeopardy, the window for Congressional intervention is closing rapidly. I demand that you: - Co-sponsor and vote 'Yes' on a War Powers Resolution to cease unauthorized hostilities and the current naval blockade. This is a core Article I responsibility, and as your constituent, I expect you to uphold your oath to the Constitution. - Demand a public briefing on the legal justification for the seizure of the Touska and the current rules of engagement. Congress cannot be a spectator while the Executive branch initiates kinetic strikes; I am looking for you to exercise the oversight that your office requires. - Vote NO on any supplemental military funding for Iran operations that lacks a specific, debated authorization from Congress. I am holding you personally accountable for how my tax dollars are used in this conflict. Do your job—stop the blank check approach to war. The American people are tired of blood and treasure being spent on avoidable conflicts. I look forward to seeing you stand up for the Constitution and the will of your constituents.
