An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Fully fund NOAA and National Weather Service forecasting capabilities

53 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

The proposed budget cuts to NOAA threaten to severely undermine our nation's weather forecasting capabilities, putting lives and property at risk. Without proper funding, offices will lack sufficient staffing, including the vital 24/7 meteorologists needed to issue timely weather warnings. This issue is already occurring, leading to dangerous delays in alerting the public about hazardous conditions. Furthermore, the cuts jeopardize critical assets like hurricane hunter aircraft that provide invaluable data for tracking and predicting these powerful storms. Accurate and timely forecasts save billions annually by allowing communities to properly prepare and respond. Degrading this capability is simply unacceptable. I urge you to fully fund NOAA and the National Weather Service to maintain and enhance their forecasting systems, technology, research, and skilled personnel. The safety of all Americans depends on these efforts.
