Vote No on Appropriations While Trump-Musk Thefts Continue

Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk have launched a multi-front attack on the way our government serves the people – firing directors and commissioners at the NLRB, EEOC and CFPB and stopping them from protecting workers and consumers; “freezing” federal funds for things Americans rely on every day like support for low-income families heating their homes and services for folks with disabilities; firing civil servants who are performing crucial work for the public, taking over Treasury Department payment systems that send out Social Security and pay the government’s bills and threatening to shut them off; and committing to the illegal practice of impoundment, in which the White House flat out strips taxpayer dollars away from who is meant to benefit from them. These tactics all have one thing in common: they are breaking the law to steal money they are supposed to spend for the American people so they can redirect it to billionaires like Musk. As we head towards a government funding deadline, it would be denying reality for Congress to act like this administration and its cronies have any intention of following any appropriations law they pass. No matter what the House and Senate negotiate, the White House will throw what they don’t like in the trash and rip off the taxpayers if they so choose. Under these circumstances, I am asking you to vote against any long-term government funding bill. Until the administrative coup, civil service purge and funding freeze are ended, all departments are allowed to get back to work and the White House abandons its threats of impoundment, any final agreement will not be worth the paper it’s printed on. A short, clean continuing resolution to keep the government open is acceptable if necessary. Anything beyond that is endorsing corruption and enriching billionaires at our expense.
