An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8

Every member of Congress swears an oath to support and defend the Constitution. That oath carries an active duty to uphold the law, exercise oversight, and act when federal officials violate public trust. Your duty is clear. Article I, Section 9, Clause 8—known as the Foreign Emoluments Clause—states: "No Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States], shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title… from any King, Prince, or foreign State." This clause prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts or benefits from foreign governments without congressional approval. When such violations have occurred, you are constitutionally obligated to investigate, hold hearings, demand disclosure, and—if warranted—initiate impeachment. These are not political choices. They are constitutional requirements.
