I am concerned about the nomination of Jamieson Greer as the U.S. Trade Representative given her stance favoring protectionist trade policies and tariffs. During her tenure as Chief of Staff under Robert Lighthizer, the Trump administration implemented tariffs on imports from allies like Canada, Mexico, and the European Union. These tariffs disrupted supply chains, raised costs for American businesses and consumers, and provoked retaliation against U.S. exports. At a time when the economy is facing inflationary pressures, we should avoid policies that artificially increase prices and export barriers that hurt American farmers, manufacturers and workers. Instead, we need a Trade Representative committed to pursuing free and fair trade that opens markets for American goods and services. I urge careful consideration of Mr. Greer's trade philosophy before this nomination moves forward.
