Top DOJ Official Threatened to Defy Courts, Congress Must Investigate Now

I am deeply troubled by serious allegations from former DOJ attorney Erez Reuveni and evidence revealed in public court records. Reuveni says that Emil Bove, #3 at the U.S. Department of Justice, told attorneys, in a March 14, 2025, meeting, “the planes needed to take off no matter what,” and that if a court tried to stop them, they might just say “f— you.” That meeting was held before the administration used the Alien Enemies Act, an act only meant for wartime, to deport hundreds of Venezuelans without proper hearings. A federal judge later found probable cause for criminal contempt, saying the Constitution “does not tolerate willful disobedience of judicial orders—especially by officials of a coordinate branch who have sworn an oath to uphold it.” Even more alarming are the patterns documented across more than 35 court cases in 2025 where the government submitted sworn declarations that judges deemed false or misleading. Courts from across the ideological spectrum, including judges appointed by Republicans, say they can no longer trust government attorneys. One magistrate judge wrote, “Trust earned over generations has been lost in weeks.” Career prosecutors have resigned en masse rather than participate in what they say are unlawful directives. These are not partisan complaints; they are constitutional alarms. This is about due process and the rule of law, not politics. The Fifth Amendment protects “persons,” not “citizens,” from being deprived of liberty without lawful process. The separation of powers assigns courts the role of review and the executive branch the duty to obey. When a president and his senior officials treat court orders as optional and dismiss sworn obligations as “guidance,” they cross a line that should concern every American. I ask you to initiate bipartisan oversight, subpoenas, hearings, and reports into these allegations. Officials who disregard the law must be held accountable.
