The Housing Supply and Affordability Act-Federal planning support will help your communities improve housing locally!
I know that you understand the struggles of state/local versus federal controls.
These bills, with your support and that of your colleagues would give the bright local minds back home the ability to strategize and create housing solutions tailored for each community - benefitting voters and businesses/developers.
I am writing to ask your support of these bills and will make myself available to you and your staff for any questions you may have.
Thank you! ——

Additional background from the American Planning Association representing over 40,000 planners, of which I am one of over 17,000 certified planners.
The Housing Supply and Affordability Act would create a powerful new tool inside the US Department of Housing and Urban Development to support the work that planners are doing to create modern codes and zoning laws that will help communities tackle the nation's housing affordability and availability crisis.
As a planner, I understand all too well the housing challenges that my community faces - challenges which were worsened by the pandemic and resulting economic downturn. This legislation would provide critical federal incentives and assistance that would empower planners to reform local rules, create housing action plans, and modernize regulatory structures that prevent the creation of safe, affordable, and quality housing in the right places.
The bill currently enjoys bipartisan support in both the House and Senate, where it is championed by Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), and Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), respectively.
I urge your support for this important legislation. Doing so will demonstrate your commitment to advancing innovative solutions that expand the nation's housing supply, address the affordability crisis, and tackle persistent social equity challenges. Thanks again, and please let me know if I can provide additional information or assistance.
