I’m writing to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 498 (Do No Harm in Medicaid Act) and H.R. 3492 (so-called “Protect Children’s Innocence Act”), both scheduled for floor votes this week.
These bills would deny medically necessary, evidence-based healthcare to transgender youth and criminalize providing such care. Major medical organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, and Endocrine Society support gender-affirming care as safe, effective, and essential.
H.R. 498 would eliminate Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for trans youth, denying low-income families access to healthcare their doctors recommend.
H.R. 3492 goes even further, banning ALL gender-affirming care nationwide and making it a felony offense - an unprecedented federal overreach into the doctor-patient relationship that would criminalize healthcare providers.
These bills ignore medical consensus, harm vulnerable youth, and interfere with families’ healthcare decisions. Transgender youth deserve access to evidence-based medical care, just like all young people.
I urge you to stand with the medical community, with families, and with transgender youth by voting NO on both bills.
