In 2019, the Kansas Supreme Court made it clear that the state constitution guarantees every Kansan the right to bodily autonomy. In 2022, Kansans voted to keep that right intact and NOT allow politicians control over private health decisions. Kansans affirmed that they strongly oppose government interference in personal healthcare decisions.
I ask you to support SB 206 because this bill would do two things.
1. Remove the requirement that doctors disclose misinformation. This entire section would be removed "a description of risks related to the proposed abortion method,
including risk of premature birth in future pregnancies, risk of breast cancer, and risks to the woman's reproductive health and alternatives to the abortion that a reasonable patient would consider material to the decision of whether or not to undergo the abortion".
2. The bill would also remove a regulation on private employee and employer-provided insurance policies that prohibit abortion coverage. The people of Kansas resoundingly said that a woman has a right to make healthcare decisions on her own. She should also be able to purchase insurance to cover all of that health care. It’s clearly government overreach when insurance companies are prevented from offering coverage for critical reproductive health care.
These are our insurance plans, and the government has no right to interfere and restrict how private funds are used.
