An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Return immigrants deported without due process to uphold rule of law

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The Trump administration's actions in sending hundreds of immigrants to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador without due process are a grave violation of human rights and legal norms. Many of those rendered to CECOT had pending immigration cases or were seeking asylum in the United States, denying them their legal right to make their case before an immigration judge. Dismissing their cases simply because they were removed from the country in an extrajudicial manner further compounds this injustice. To uphold principles of due process and the rule of law, all those banished to CECOT must be safely returned to U.S. custody so they can pursue their immigration claims and have their day in court. Failure to do so would legitimize the administration's flagrant defiance of judicial orders and establish a dangerous precedent allowing the government to circumvent legal procedures through unlawful conduct.
