Stand Up for Inspectors General Illegally Fired by Trump

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent firing of 18 Inspectors General by former President Donald Trump on Friday night, a move that directly undermines efforts to root out corruption, waste, fraud, and abuse in our government.
These positions serve as independent watchdogs, and their removal—particularly those monitoring critical agencies such as Defense, State, Health and Human Services, and Labor—has set a dangerous precedent.
The firings are not only deeply troubling but also illegal. According to the Inspectors General themselves, the President is required to provide a substantive reason for the removal and give Congress 30 days’ notice. Trump’s actions have ignored these legal requirements, and while litigation is likely, it is insufficient on its own.
I urge you to take immediate action to ensure accountability. Congress must send a strong message that firing these watchdogs in order to enable theft, corruption, and cronyism will not be tolerated. The public deserves to know that this is not just a political move, but a direct attack on the integrity of our government. If Congress does not act, it will be complicit in the corruption that will undoubtedly follow.
Please speak out loudly and clearly in response to this Friday Night Massacre. The American people are counting on you to protect our democracy and hold Trump and his cronies accountable for their actions.
