Congress: VOTE NO on Anti-Wolf Bill H.R. 845! Protect this keystone species!!!
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
As a staunch wolf supporter and proponent of science-based conservation efforts, I implore you to vote NO on H.R. 845. This bill capitalizes on fear and misinformation in its attempts to remove protections for wolves, and will further hinder gray wolf recovery efforts across the lower 48 states.
Gray wolves were once wide-ranging across the United States but after centuries of intense persecution and habitat loss, their numbers and occupied range dwindled; today, even with Endangered Species Act protections, gray wolves only occupy 10% of their native range and certain populations are losing genetic variability. They are not yet recovered and H.R. 845 would prematurely delist the species, causing any progress to backslide.
When gray wolves most recently lost protections as the result of the Trump administration's 2020 delisting rule, Wisconsin held a wolf hunt in 2021 for the first time since 2014. In less than three days, hunters slaughtered 218 wolves more than 100 wolves than their allotted quota. In Montana and Idaho, where wolves have been hunted since the loss of protections in 2011, the nationwide delisting encouraged state legislators to push through aggressive anti-wolf bills that increased the length of wolf trapping and hunting seasons, increased the ways wolves could be killed, and more.
Just last year, a man in Wyoming ran down a young female wolf in his snowmobile, hit her and severely injured her, and then brought her to his home and a local bar, where he taped her mouth shut and patrons took pictures and video with her. He then killed her outside the bar.
If this anti-wolf bill passes, these unethical and unscientific practices will occur in many more states, and will threaten wolves with extinction. I urge you to listen to science, ethics, and the desires of a majority of American voters - stand up for wolves and vote NO on H.R. 845.
