I am writing to encourage you as my representatives to pass the National Popular Vote Act. The Electoral College, as Jesse Wegman so eloquently stated, "is the most glaring reminder of many that our democracy is not fair, not equal and not representative." As you know, the Electoral College was a compromise by the founders to give smaller states more power during elections. However, with the "winner take all" of 48 out of 50 states, it doesn't matter what 49% of that state vote for; only the 51% get counted. How is this fair? How does this protect EVERY vote and make sure that each one has equal weight? If our elections are only decided by battleground states, then what is the purpose of voting in any other states? To truly reflect the diversity of our nation and to uphold true representation and democracy, please vote for the National Popular Vote Act so that the winner of the popular vote becomes the president. This is the only way to truly give every vote an equal voice.
