Resistbot Petition: RIP RBG

An open letter to the U.S. Congress

RIP RBG

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. No male can truly appreciate the influence of Justice Ginsberg. But women can, did, and do. She deserves every accolade she receives, and more. Words can’t express her importance to half of the country. She was the bravest of the brave. I know that won’t matter in the ugliness already brewing. It’s going to be every awful thing we can imagine. Her death is the icing on the cake of our democracy’s current struggle for survival. And for decency. And for what is right. I know none of that will matter. Does matter. I know that nothing can change the Senate’s determination to charge forward with any nominee Mr. Trump sends your way. I know that appealing to the better angels is a joke. So I wish you good luck with it. I wish you good luck with suppressing any remaining righteousness you may possess. I could quote from here to sundown previous words spoken by you and yours as to why now is not the time to make such a momentous decision to the SCOTUS. But we all know those familiar pieties are just that. Meaningless in the reality. In the end, nothing really matters except holding on to power. Whatever the means. Whatever the damage done. "It has been 80 years since a Supreme Court vacancy was nominated and confirmed in an election year," Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said at the time [Garland nomination]. "There is a long tradition that you don't do this in an election year." “On her deathbed, NPR reported, she dictated a statement to her granddaughter: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”” Even to the end, RBG maintained her hope and faith that what is right and just would prevail. Should prevail. I expect it won’t take long for y’all to prove her wrong. A deathbed wish ain’t what it used to be. Might makes right. And the rest of it can go to hell. RIP RBG.
