An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Civil Unrest

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am incredibly concerned about the incendiary remarks that Trump just made regarding the peaceful protests that have been happening in our state and around the country. News reports make clear that the escalation is coming from the police, who are meant to protect the community but instead are fanning the flames. It is up to local governments to work with community leaders. Research has shown that de-escalation works, and yet cities respond with force (see, e.g., https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/de-escalation-keeps-protesters-and-police-safer-heres-why-departments-respond-with-force-anyway/). I strongly oppose the use of military force in our cities. Please swiftly and forcefully denounce these comments.
