The United States Postal Service, established under Article 1 of the Constitution, must be protected. Congress has already damaged the USPS enough with the mandate of pre-funding pensions, but what is happening now is outrageous. As a citizen, I demand a full inquiry into the US Postmaster General and his recent actions to hinder mail service. Removing mail sorting machines and mailboxes from primarily urban (and coincidentally, Democratic-voting) areas of our country aligns with the President’s disturbing comments about blocking funding to USPS to specifically disenfranchise voters. As a Coloradan, I’m proud that my state offers full-time mail-in balloting, and has provided ballot collection boxes, one of which I can walk to from my home. However, the rest of the country may not be so fortunate. With polling stations closing and a pandemic raging uncontested across America, this is not the time to play politics with the US Postal Service. The USPS is a government service just like the military. It’s time to stop pretending that it’s mission is to turn a profit instead of providing vital links to rural and urban Americans alike.
