Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
I’m slow sometimes, but I finally get the obvious. Our President is recreating the Civil War to help get him re-elected. Duh.
He’s the new, but more virulent Jefferson Davis. But even Jeff Davis wasn’t gung-ho to destroy the Union. Mr. Trump on the other hand is all in if it means he can drag the country through 4 more years of him.
He whipping up racist sentiment. He’s pitting southern against northern. He’s fomenting insurrection among his eager followers. His eager, armed followers, who are looking for an excuse to keep America for real Americans.
He exalts the vanquished confederacy. It appears that, in his mind, they got robbed by not winning. I wonder if he had ever even seen a monument to any confederate hero before he had his come-to-Jesus moment on this issue.
A very strange stance for a NY yankee whose family migrated to America 20 years after the war had ended. He never even had a dog in that fight.
But politics is a cynical game. Whoever can dazzle the rubes wins the game. And Mr. Trump is nothing if he’s not a con man. If it actually works, we deserve him.
However this con reeks of desperation. He’s about 150 years too late. In the middle of economic meltdown, dying multitudes of American citizens, civil unrest...the administration thinks we can be persuaded that the death of our southern heritage is what we should most worry about? Ignore the life you’re trying to live now for...what?
How stupid does he think we are? It’d be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous.
