The CDC urges everyone to wear a cloth mask in public. That’s because people are most infectious when they’re first infected, when they have few or no symptoms. If those around me don’t wear a mask, they put myself and my family at risk and they hurt our country’s ability to recover from this pandemic.
FDA modeling estimates that if 80% of people in our community wear a mask in public spaces, we can stop this pandemic immediately. And a Yale study shows that each additional mask worn is worth $3,000-$6,000 due to their impact in slowing the spread of the virus.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said that “If everybody [wears homemade masks], we’re each protecting each other.” Scott Gottlieb, Former U.S. FDA Commissioner, agrees: “everyone, including people without symptoms, should be encouraged to wear nonmedical fabric face masks while in public.”
We need an executive order NOW requiring everyone to wear a nonmedical mask in public spaces, such as stores and public transportation.
This is not a personal choice issue. My health and safety require everyone in my community to mask up. Every day we wait results in more lives lost, more people sick, more jobs lost, and more damage to our economy.
Please act today and enact mandatory mask laws. Every day counts.
