Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
I’m not the first and won’t be the last. And definitely not the smartest, but get ready for your own version of ‘A Christmas Carol.’ But instead of ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, you’ll be visited by your own words, mostly past, many present, and eventually future.
I speak of course of the new crisis du jour, the SCOTUS.
Hypocrisy reigns in politics. On both sides. And you can of course say that the Dems would ramrod a nominee, any nominee, if the shoe were on the other foot.
But the fact is, you have control of the Senate so today’s hypocrisy starts and stops with you. And these are your very own words. Not fake news.
Here’s a sampling of you and your fellows who emphatically declared in 2016 that no way would they vote on a SCOTUS nominee this close to an election, even it were a Republican president putting a name forward.
Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO)
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA)
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC)
Sen. David Perdue (R-GA)
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI)
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA)
Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC)
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND)
Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)
I’m hoping loose lips can still sink ships.
