I am writing to you to express my concern that the Judicial Council may rescind (1) the Emergency Bail Schedule and (2) the eviction moratorium. In this global pandemic, somebody’s inability to pay their bail or their rent should not put their life at risk.
Please use your executive power to stop the Judicial Council from (1) rescinding the $0 bail order and (2) ending the eviction moratorium. You responded strongly and swiftly to the COVID-19 pandemic by issuing the executive order granting the Judicial Council emergency power. The pandemic is not over, and we need these emergency orders to remain in place for our public health and safety. You need to act urgently as the Judicial Council is voting on this today, which could leave Californians without the housing and safety they desperately need.
Please act immediately to safeguard the wellbeing and due process rights of everyone held pretrial across the state, and the community at large.
