I am writing to express my profound anger and heartbreak over the tragic death of Alex Pretti in Minnesota—a man who was peacefully protesting and exercising his constitutional rights when he was killed. This is not just a personal tragedy; it is a glaring symptom of a dangerous system that must be urgently addressed.
ICE, as it currently operates, has become a threat to the very freedoms and justice it claims to uphold. The killing of an innocent man like Alex Pretti, who was simply standing up for his beliefs, is unacceptable and demands immediate accountability.
Our country was built on the principles of justice, liberty, and the right to peacefully protest—principles that are being trampled underfoot by unchecked enforcement agencies. ICE’s actions have created fear and suffering in communities across the nation.
Instead of protecting the vulnerable, it has too often become an instrument of violence and intimidation. This is not what America stands for. We must demand transparency, reform, or even the complete shutdown of ICE if it cannot be held accountable to the law and respect the constitutional rights of all people.
Our country faces many critical challenges—climate change, economic inequality, public health, and more. These urgent issues deserve our full attention and resources. Diverting focus and funds to an agency that harms innocent people and undermines justice is counterproductive and morally wrong.
I urge you, as leaders entrusted with the welfare of the nation, to take immediate action to ensure justice for Alex Pretti and to reconsider the role and existence of ICE. Let us move forward with compassion, respect for human rights, and a commitment to true justice.
