Vote no on President Trump's proposed $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget until Congress passes a war powers resolution. The administration is requesting $445 billion more for military spending while simultaneously seeking $200 billion for operations against Iran. Congress cannot hand over that kind of money without first reasserting its constitutional authority to declare war.
Trump's budget would increase military spending by 42% while cutting medical research, job training, and home heating assistance by 10%. He told donors we can't afford daycare, Medicaid, or Medicare because "we're fighting wars." If we're fighting wars, Congress needs to authorize them first. That's not a formality. That's the Constitution.
The Pentagon has failed every single audit since Congress required them starting in 2018. Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and Boeing each donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural committee and stand to profit enormously from this increase. Meanwhile, 20 million Americans just saw their healthcare premiums jump $2,000 annually because Trump opposed extending Obamacare subsidies.
No more blank checks for unauthorized military operations. Pass a war powers resolution before approving any budget increase.
