An Open Letter

To: Rep. Kelly, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in New Castle, PA

February 11

I request your position on the SAVE Act that would prevent women from voting if they’ve changed their last name. Even with securing documents or other forms of ID, this act disproportionately infringes on women’s right to vote. These documents cost money to procure, and so this legislation is not only discriminatory but also a poll tax. Now look, I’m not opposed to voter ID. We already have to have it to register and again when we vote for the first time and subsequently should our polling stations change. I’m a married woman that you represent in Congress. I urge you to vote no on this bill as it stands. I look forward to hearing from you.
