Request for Immediate Review of White House January 6 Publication

To: Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin, Rep. James

From: A constituent in Clinton Township, MI

January 7

I am writing to urgently raise concern about a statement the White House recently published on its official website and amplified across its social media accounts regarding the events of January 6, 2021. The narrative presented there directly contradicts findings established by federal courts, the Department of Justice, bipartisan Senate investigations, and extensive public evidence. The concern is straightforward: the White House is using an official government platform and its federally managed social media channels to promote a version of January 6 that conflicts with established facts and the documented record. When an administration publishes an inaccurate historical account through official channels, it becomes a matter that requires immediate congressional oversight. The White House statement portrays January 6 as a peaceful gathering, disregards the violence captured on video and in sworn testimony, describes individuals convicted of federal crimes as victims of political prosecution, and assigns responsibility for security failures in ways that conflict with multi-agency investigative findings. It does not acknowledge the judicial outcomes or the factual record established over several years. If any administration can publicly revise the history of an attack on Congress in a way that contradicts verified evidence, future administrations will feel permitted to do the same. This undermines Congress’s ability to maintain an accurate public record, conduct oversight, and preserve the integrity of federal institutions. I am asking Congress to review how this statement was produced and approved, and to ensure that official government communications remain consistent with documented fact. At minimum, a formal inquiry or clarification is warranted. If further review finds that federal agencies or staff were pressured to support or legitimize this narrative, stronger oversight actions will be necessary. A government cannot function if it cannot state the truth about an assault on its own institutions. Congress must address this now, before this revised version of January 6 becomes accepted as official history. I urge you to act. The integrity of our institutions depends on it.
