Defend Civil Liberties, Reject Authoritarianism and Persecution

To: Sen. Warren, Rep. Keating, Sen. Markey

From: A constituent in Pembroke, MA

April 18

The Trump administration is expected to invoke the Insurrection Act on Easter Sunday to allow mass deportations using federalized National Guard troops, an unprecedented and unnecessary escalation of militarized immigration enforcement. While President Trump has already greatly expanded domestic military deployments to the southern border, activating the Insurrection Act would open the door to deploying troops for direct law enforcement roles like arrests and detentions, violating long-standing principles against using the military as a police force over civilians. This looming invocation represents a disturbing overreach of executive power that could suspend due process, override civilian control over the military, and trample on constitutional rights. The imminent threat of deploying armed federal troops against immigrant communities and other vulnerable groups is deeply undemocratic and unacceptable in a free society. Protect our liberties from this authoritarian erosion.
