I am deeply concerned about the proposed staffing cuts to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These agencies play a vital role in providing affordable housing and critical services to millions of Americans, including low-income families, seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans. Cutting HUD's workforce by half and reducing staff at VA field offices will severely undermine their ability to effectively manage housing programs, process payments, conduct inspections, and serve those in need. This will inevitably lead to longer waitlists, delayed assistance, and increased housing instability and homelessness for vulnerable populations. Furthermore, these cuts will negatively impact local economies. Housing agencies, landlords, developers, and businesses that rely on HUD and VA programs will suffer from payment delays and operational slowdowns. Thousands of dedicated public servants will lose their jobs, further straining local communities. Ensuring access to safe, affordable housing is essential for the well-being of individuals and the strength of our communities. Cutting resources for HUD and the VA will only exacerbate the ongoing affordable housing crisis and fail to provide the support our veterans deserve. I urge you to reject these harmful staffing cuts and instead prioritize funding and resources for HUD and the VA. Their work is crucial for promoting housing stability, economic opportunity, and a better quality of life for all Americans.
