Reject defunding NPR, protect diverse voices and public discourse

To: Sen. Tuberville, Rep. Moore, Sen. Britt

From: A constituent in Dothan, AL

July 14

The proposed Defund NPR Act (H.R. 1595) seeks to prohibit federal funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and any successor organizations. While the bill's intent is to defund NPR, permanently eliminating this crucial source of noncommercial, educational programming would be detrimental to public discourse and access to unbiased journalism. NPR plays a vital role in providing diverse perspectives and in-depth coverage that commercial media often overlooks. Defunding NPR would diminish the diversity of voices in the media landscape and undermine a trusted source of news and cultural programming. I urge you to reject this misguided effort to defund public broadcasting and instead work to strengthen institutions that promote an informed citizenry and robust public dialogue.
